Fishing Henderson Harbor through the year
Browns and early lakers around the shoals.
Smallmouth on the reefs, lakers deep, and a strong king bite out over open water.
Salmon push through toward the Black River and the eastern tributaries.
Protected bays draw ice anglers in a cold year; conditions are highly variable.
Getting on the water
Henderson Harbor, a deeply protected natural harbour on the eastern end, with marinas and public access. Sheltered enough to launch comfortably when the open lake is unpleasant.
The water itself
This is structurally the most interesting corner of Lake America. Association Island, Stony Point, Galloo Island and a scatter of shoals and reefs break up the bottom, which supports a genuine mixed fishery rather than a pure open-water troll. Smallmouth bass fishing here is regionally famous, and lake trout hold on the deeper structure year-round.

Henderson Harbor questions
What is Henderson Harbor known for?
Variety. The island and reef structure of the eastern basin supports smallmouth bass, lake trout, salmon and northern pike in the same general area, which is unusual on a lake that is mostly open-water trolling.
Is the smallmouth fishing really that good?
The eastern end of Lake America has a long-standing reputation for smallmouth bass, and the rocky structure around the islands is the reason. Check current New York regulations for seasons and limits before you go.
Water temperature above is measured at the nearest NOAA station (Cape Vincent), so treat it as a reference for the general area rather than a reading from the exact spot you plan to fish. Charter captains fishing out of Henderson Harbor →
